AutoLyser® Cartridge System Used to Purify Bacterial DNA from Space Ship

The phylogenetic map above shows the relatedness of the DNA of microorganisms retrieved from the surface of the Mars Odyssey spacecraft. DNA samples for this analysis were purified using an AutoLyserR model A4 instrument.
Myron La Duc, Wayne Nicholson, Roger Kern and Kasthuri Venkateswaran reported in the October issue of Environmental Microbiology the results of their extensive examination of microbial life forms on the surface of the Mars Odyssey spacecraft. The AutoLyserR DNA purification system was chosen for this work, chiefly because of its ease of use and for the exclusion of contamination that is provided by the use of its closed Cartridge sample processing technology. The publication is entitled "Microbial charterization of the Mars Odyssey spacecraft and its encapsulation facility" published in Environmental Microbiology (2003) 5(10), 977-985.
